WHY AMETZA

California-Grown Alfalfa & Timothy Hay Pellets, Milled Fresh in Holtville

Every bag of Ametza hay pellets starts in the Imperial Valley of California — America's premier alfalfa belt — and ends at your barn door without ever leaving the country. Our family-owned mill in Holtville steam-conditions each batch to eliminate dust, then cold-presses the forage into dense, uniform pellets that keep their shape in feeders and reduce waste by up to 30%.

We lab-test every batch for crude protein, fiber, moisture, and mycotoxins, and we mill-date every bag so you always know exactly how fresh your feed is. No imported filler, no GMO grains, no binders — just pure California forage pressed into the perfect bite-size pellet for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, goats, and other small livestock.

Whether you're feeding one house rabbit or running a 500-doe commercial rabbitry, Ametza delivers consistent nutrition, transparent sourcing, and Made-in-USA reliability in every bag.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions About Ametza Hay Pellets

Everything rabbit owners, guinea pig keepers, and commercial breeders ask before switching to Ametza California-grown pellets.

What is the difference between alfalfa and timothy hay pellets?

Alfalfa hay pellets are high in protein (16–18%) and calcium — ideal for growing rabbits under 6 months, pregnant or nursing does, and animals that need to gain weight. Timothy hay pellets are lower in protein (9–11%) and calcium, making them the recommended daily forage for adult rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas to prevent bladder stones and obesity. Most Ametza customers feed alfalfa to juveniles and switch to timothy at 6–7 months of age.

Are Ametza hay pellets safe for guinea pigs and chinchillas?

Yes. Our timothy and orchard-grass pellets contain no added sugars, seeds, dyes, or grains — only pure lab-tested California hay. They are safe for guinea pigs, chinchillas, rabbits, and degus. Guinea pigs should also receive daily vitamin C supplementation and unlimited fresh hay alongside pellets. We recommend 1–2 tablespoons of pellets per guinea pig per day.

Where are Ametza pellets grown and milled?

Every Ametza pellet is grown, cured, and milled in Holtville, California — the heart of the Imperial Valley alfalfa belt. We control the full supply chain from field to bag: our fields, our trucks, our steam-conditioning mill, and our in-house lab. No imported hay, no outsourced milling.

How much should I feed my rabbit per day?

Standard feeding guidelines: growing rabbits (under 6 months) get unlimited alfalfa pellets plus unlimited alfalfa hay. Adult rabbits (over 6 months) get 1/4 cup of timothy pellets per 5 lb of body weight daily, plus unlimited grass hay and 1 cup of leafy greens. Pregnant or nursing does return to unlimited alfalfa pellets until kits are weaned.

Do you offer wholesale pricing and pallet shipping?

Yes. We offer pallet pricing (40 × 50 lb sacks = 2,000 lb / pallet) with freight-forward quotes to all 48 US states, private-label packaging, and custom protein formulations for commercial rabbitries, pet stores, guinea pig rescues, and feed retailers. Net-30 terms are available for qualified accounts. Visit our wholesale program page or email sales@ametzallc.com.

How long do Ametza pellets stay fresh after opening?

Every bag is stamped with a mill date. Unopened pellets stay fresh for 12 months when stored in a cool, dry place below 70°F. After opening, use within 6 weeks for peak nutrition; transfer to an airtight feed bin to block moisture and pests. Never feed pellets that smell sour, show mold, or have been exposed to moisture.

What shipping options do you offer?

We ship via UPS Ground and USPS Priority to all 50 US states. Free shipping on retail orders over $150. Most orders leave our Holtville facility within 1 business day and arrive in 2–5 business days. Pallet freight (wholesale) ships via LTL carrier with liftgate delivery available. We do not currently ship internationally.

Can I transition my animals from another pellet brand?

Yes — transition over 7–10 days to avoid GI upset. Start with 75% old feed and 25% Ametza for 2–3 days, then 50/50 for 2–3 days, 25/75 for 2–3 days, and finally 100% Ametza. Always keep unlimited fresh grass hay and water available during the switch. Rabbits and guinea pigs with sensitive stomachs may benefit from adding a probiotic during transition.
